A swarm of locusts spills inside an electric storm. The sound gently pans towards a sensitive growl. Can it be the soft gnawing of textured guitar? Or is it a grumble of screaming maggots? A harsh push towards a state of anxious meditation in which the drone is sharply pushing pins into the wall of sound, a wall that fights back, pulsating from within. The strings are all part of a dialectic. Whether pinched, scratched, bashed or padded for they all veer towards a singular law: the instrument has been and will forever be tampered with. With care and conviction, it can both lull and scream. Nature will never be the same, but it will fight back against the superimposed structures of man. Against the constrains of what harmony is, with the grave consciousness that sound doesn’t only push but mostly pull at the innards of the listener, in a fruitful attempt to move what’s left of the soul. Michiu’s guitar sounds the alarm, waving a long goodbye to silence and norm. And when the lights are out, all you need to do is follow the foreboding sound. Maglavid is the call of the void, and the final step that the listener should take inside it in order to embrace its odds.
