It never hurts to ask.

In late winter of 2024 I put up a Prague gig for Moundabout. Everyone who witnessed that show (at our favourite Punctum) had pretty heavy jawdrop and talked about the show for a long time.

Moundabout are hard to put in one box, because just when you think you get 'em labeled they fluently move into something else. From ritual folk music to abstract noise momentum to lo-fi wedding dance band to heavy psychedelic rock delivery. Their live shows are incredibly coherent and they leave you with the impression they were born to do exactly this. And if you don't know this yet, it's just two of them: Phil Langero and Paddy Shine.

A few days after the gig I’ve “whatsapped” them and asked if they would ever consider releasing 7” on Stoned to Death. To my disbelief they agreed pretty much in the next message. It never hurts to ask.

Only about two months after we sealed the deal, they sent me two finished tracks. Never Old and Ballinasloe. Again, to my hard disbelief (not even talking about the speed of the delivery), the second track is no other than the one that nearly broke my neck (Ballinasloe) when they performed it at that very gig in Prague. I did not ask them for this one, but ain’t I crazy lucky? And so is the listener. Because not only Never Old and Ballinasloe are amazing songs. They were born to be seven inch singles. Trust me. This is the EP you will keep spinning for days. Or at least I will.
